GOLGOTA GOSPEL BAND

The band accompanying the Golgota Gospel Choir started their own musical endeavours apart from the choir in the spring of 2011. The idea came from Mike Payne, who produced the work, while Marcell Tóth, one of the band members, was in charge of arrangements. Most of the songs are instrumental, but at times the band features guest vocalists as well as an excellent brass section. The style is mainly characterized as modern gospel, with elements of funk and soul. The members of the band from left to right are Tamás Hidász  (drums), Marcell Tóth (keyboard), Dávid Tóth (guitar) and Attila György (bass guitar).

Tamás Hidász joined the choir in 2010. He received his Masters degree in jazz drum education from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 2017. Apart from the choir, he works with several other productions and artists such as Laci Gáspár, István Gyárfás, Péter Sárik, Attila László and Recirquel.

Marcell Tóth started his music education with classical piano, then he studied jazz piano. Between 2009 and 2014 he studied jazz piano performance at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, where he received his Master’s degree. Presently he teaches jazz piano, ensemble practice and music theory at Etűd Conservatory. He has participated in several music productions as a member of various bands in the past years, performing in the world of jazz, pop, funk and gospel. He has worked regularly with the productions of Vera Tóth, Laci Gáspár, István Gyárfás, Zolbert, Helyes_Beat and the Golgota Gospel Band. Besides continuous concert events, he is currently concentrating on composing, arrangement and production work in order to find new ways and inspiration in his art, with which he may influence others.

Dávid Tóth is the winner of the TV talent show Gitársztár (“Guitar Star”), featuring Tibor Tátrai, Antal Gábor Szűcs, György Oroszlány as judges. He received his degree in jazz guitar from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. In 2017, he was a semi-finalist in the talent show A Dal (“The Song”) with David Henderson and their song White Shadows. Their co-authored songs are regularly being played at national radio and music channels. His guitar playing has recently drawn the attention of DJ - Armin van Buuren, who has posted Dávid’s guitar videos several times on his official Facebook and Twitter pages (9 million and 1.6 million followers respectively). Dávid regularly plays with Laci Gáspár and Tibi Kasza. He joined Golgota Gospel Choir in 2010.

Attila György has been the bass guitarist of the choir for 12 years. In his view this is the best arrangement to tune in to each other at the concerts and at the rehearsals. In his private life Attila is a classical upright bass player, but he regularly plays bass guitar in various formations, as well as at Madách Theatre.
