GOLGOTA GOSPEL CHOIR

Fun, joy, variety. This may be the description for one of Hungary’s biggest choirs, the Golgota Gospel Choir. Established in November 2002, we now have 100 members. We are accompanied in concert by the Golgota Gospel Band, which consists of professional musicians. Their energetic music provides a solid base to our gospel, jazz, country, blues and even classical songs.

In the last 15 years we have played in front of more than a hundred thousand people in Hungary and surrounding countries. We have sung in Esztergom, Székesfehérvár, Baja, Jászberény, Békéscsaba and in small towns and villages. Moreover, we have performed in concerts and festivals in Transylvania, Croatia, Italy, Poland, Serbia and Slovakia.  Our spring, autumn and winter concerts have already become tradition.

We released our first album, ”Golgota Gospel Kórus,” in 2005, and our second, “Joyful” in 2007. As our popularity grew, not only could people relisten, they could also relive the heartwarming atmosphere and touching performance of our songs in concert, because in 2008 we recorded our Christmas concert and released it on DVD. The end of 2011 saw the appearance of our DVD “Go tell it!” featuring the best songs of the previous years.

Our artistic director and conductor is the pianist, Irish citizen, South-African born Mark Zeeman (www.markzeeman.com), who arrived in Hungary 15 years ago to serve as a missionary at Calvary Chapel Budapest. The choir was founded based on the vision of  Greg Opean, the then pastor of the church.

Our choir is one of the ministries of the downtown Budapest Calvary Chapel (golgotabudapest.hu), spreading the truth of the Bible in their songs. Our main goal is to call people in our evangelistic concerts and tours into a personal relationship with God. That is why we established the Golgota Art Foundation, which supports choir activities.
